Visualization workshops for pupils' visions for climate neutrality in Elefsina
The workshops that took place on the 3rd day of the Pupil's Conference (11/5/2023) were eight, aimed at visualizing the pupils' proposals for a climate-neutral Elefsina and are described below:
Description of workshops:
1. 3-D Elefsina.
Children marked the thematic routes they walked on a floor map of Elefsina, added their proposals for change and captured their feelings through drawings and words.
The workshop was attended by 14 children from 6 different Greek schools (5 primary schools and 1 secondary school) and was implemented in Greek.
The workshop was animated by Maria Demopoulou and Alexandra Tsigou, Head of the P.E. DPE A' Athens & South Athens. Attica, respectively.
Description of workshops:
1. 3-D Elefsina.
Children marked the thematic routes they walked on a floor map of Elefsina, added their proposals for change and captured their feelings through drawings and words.
The workshop was attended by 14 children from 6 different Greek schools (5 primary schools and 1 secondary school) and was implemented in Greek.
The workshop was animated by Maria Demopoulou and Alexandra Tsigou, Head of the P.E. DPE A' Athens & South Athens. Attica, respectively.
2. Construction of pickets (plakat).
The children created free slogans for Climate Neutral Elefsina on measure paper and decided which one they want to be on their picket. Each child created their own placard with the slogan they chose and decorated it with colours and drawings, while 25 children were also tasked with creating a picket with a letter from the phrase "FOR A CLIMATE NEUTRAL ELEUSIS". The workshop was attended by 40 children from 15 different primary and secondary schools in Greece and abroad. It was implemented in English.
The workshop was facilitated by Antonia Dardioti, Head of the P.E. DDE An. Thessaloniki and the accompanying teachers Nikos Galanis (Home Economics), Maria Tsahouridou (Art), Elli Hatzopoulou (German Language), Victoria Kirli (Home Economics), Fani Vasiliko (English Language), Evi Patkou (Physics and Computer Science), Despina Thanou (Philologist), Athanasia Papa (Philologist) of the Thessaloniki High Schools.
3. Music workshop.
In the music workshop, the children wrote the lyrics of a song based on a well-known melody and prepared it to be sung at the end of the conference at the Town Hall. They also made seismic devices from recyclable materials and materials of nature. 25 children from 9 different primary and secondary schools from Greece and abroad participated in the workshop. It was implemented in English language.
The workshop was animated by Despina Laskou, Music Education teacher and Ioulia Dretaki, Teacher.
4. Photography exhibition installation workshop.
The photographs used in this workshop were taken on the 1st day of the conference by children from Thessaloniki and abroad during their tour of Elefsina, with the instruction to look at the place with a critical eye and to freely photograph what they like and what they don't like in it and want to change.
The workshop was attended by 25 children from 10 different Greek schools (7 primary schools and 3 secondary schools) and was implemented in Greek.
The workshop was animated by Lina Douvantzi, 1st Gymnasium of Kalamaria and Antonia Dardioti, coordinators of the photography network in Environmental Education "Click, protect it!" of Central Macedonia with the help of Maria Kantari, Physicist of the 1st Gymnasium of Kalamaria.
The photographs used in this workshop were taken on the 1st day of the conference by children from Thessaloniki and abroad during their tour of Elefsina, with the instruction to look at the place with a critical eye and to freely photograph what they like and what they don't like in it and want to change.
The workshop was attended by 25 children from 10 different Greek schools (7 primary schools and 3 secondary schools) and was implemented in Greek.
The workshop was animated by Lina Douvantzi, 1st Gymnasium of Kalamaria and Antonia Dardioti, coordinators of the photography network in Environmental Education "Click, protect it!" of Central Macedonia with the help of Maria Kantari, Physicist of the 1st Gymnasium of Kalamaria.
5. Art workshop.
The children used painting and collage to create a banner of the city they dream of and their visions for a climate-neutral Elefsina. The children of the workshop took the lead with their creation in the symbolic student march at the end of the conference.
20 children from 11 different primary and secondary schools from Greece and abroad participated in the workshop. It was implemented in English.
The workshop was animated by Thomas Oikonomakos, Visual Artist - Scenographer.
6. Sculpture construction.
The children created constructions with recyclable (paper, plastic bottles, aluminium cans, fabrics, etc.) and natural materials (leaves, branches, etc.), giving the message of reuse from their vision for a climate-neutral Elefsina.
The workshop was attended by 30 children from 11 different primary and secondary schools in Greece and abroad. It was implemented in English.
The workshop was animated by Thomas Oikonomakos, Visual Artist - Scenographer.
Workshops 5 and 6 were held in parallel at the same venue.
7. Theatrical event.
Children expressed themselves with theatrical techniques on issues related to climate neutrality. The group physically recreated their experiences at the conference venue.
The workshop was attended by 12 children from 5 different Greek schools (2 Primary Schools and 3 Secondary Schools) and was implemented in Greek. The workshop was animated by Maya Andreou, Electrical Engineer/Actor and Faye Ioannidou, Theatre Pedagogy - Community Energy River.
8. Musical-artistic event & unifying dance.
The pupils and accompanying teachers were first invited to a short experience with live harp melodies as a vehicle, connecting with the moment, the place, Elefsina.
From the experience, concepts, qualities, emotions and memories emerged, which were visually captured in transparent hands.
The workshop was attended by 9[1] [2] [3] children and accompanying teachers from 3 Greek schools and 1 foreign school and was conducted in English with simultaneous translation into Greek.
The workshop was facilitated by maria a. angeli, Holistic Learning Educator, musician, visual arts curator.
